Raindrop Jars Installation
Prague Quadrennial 2023
Early in this creative process our professor, Pavlo Bosyy, suggested building the installation using plastic jars to protect our creations from environmental influences, which proved to be a successful idea both practically and for a shared project, as the jars could be distributed for people to work on individually. Although I had built and coordinated the majority of the project, the concept and ideas came from the group, particularly Sebastian Cattrysse, and I was glad to be trusted with this responsibility. The installation consists of a wooden disk decorated with a cloud trim supporting 6 jars hanging from the perimeter by a chain. Although the theme of the jars are loosely based around environmentalism, water, or Toronto, my main objective for them was to be a showcase of skill and for both me and my classmates to explore new techniques and mediums. In the centre of the disk hangs a deconstructed sculpture of the CN tower, a landmark for Toronto, I hand sculpted with polymer clay. Under it hangs the Letters TMU, as well as the TMU logo which holds a QR code to our website. Despite difficulties with timeframe, I am very pleased with the end result of this project, and have learned a lot of valuable things while working with new mediums and pushing myself artistically, as have many others in the team.
